Preview: Lutheran Lions vs. Discovery Canyon Thunder
The Lutheran Lions will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Discovery Canyon Thunder at 7:00 p.m. Lutheran will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 12 to 5 on the offensive boards, a fact Lutheran proved on Wednesday. They managed a 51-45 victory over Palmer Ridge.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lutheran to victory, but perhaps none more so than Berkley Schneider, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and five assists. Schneider hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayda Vigil, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Discovery Canyon suffered their biggest defeat since November 30, 2023 on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 82-49 loss at the hands of Air Academy. While losing is never fun, Discovery Canyon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 181st, while Air Academy is ranked sixth).
Despite the loss, Discovery Canyon got a solid performance out of Meghan Storch, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals. Storch hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Natalie Neuhaus, who scored 13 points.
Lutheran has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. As for Discovery Canyon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-8.
Everything came up roses for Lutheran against Discovery Canyon in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 54-26 win. Does Lutheran have another victory up their sleeve, or will Discovery Canyon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
