Preview: Clifton Central Comets vs. Beecher Bobcats
The Clifton Central Comets will head out on the road to face off against the Beecher Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Wednesday, Clifton Central didn't have too much trouble with Grant Park at home as they won 62-46. The win was just what Clifton Central needed coming off of a 66-43 loss in their prior match.
Clifton Central found their leader in underclassman Blake Chandler, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Chandler has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Perry Mason, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Beecher put another one in the bag last Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They really took it to Momence for the full four quarters, racking up a 76-31 victory at home. Beecher has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Clifton Central's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Beecher, their win bumped their record up to 19-0.
Clifton Central lost to Beecher on the road by a decisive 73-57 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Can Clifton Central avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
