Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Jaydon Ortiz and James Schreck Lead Needville to Victory

There's no place like home for Needville, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Sweeny Bulldogs on Friday, sneaking past 53-50. This was payback for the Bluejays, who suffered a 54-46 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Leading Needville to victory were James Schreck and Jaydon Ortiz. Schreck posted 17 points and five steals, while Ortiz went 7 for 13 en route to 17 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Schreck a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamarkus Jack, who earned no points along with seven assists, six steals, and five rebounds.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Clinton King -Varner, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 23 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Tatum Waller, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Needville is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-12 record this season. As for Sweeny, they dropped their record down to 2-19 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road.

Needville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-62 defeat against El Campo on the 21st. Sweeny has also already played their next match, a 52-50 win against Bay City on the 23rd.
