Softball Game Preview: Paul W. Bryant Stampede vs. Bessemer City Tigers

The Paul W. Bryant Stampede will challenge the Bessemer City Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Paul W. Bryant has given up an average of 14.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Paul W. Bryant turned things around against Selma two weeks ago. They and the Saints finished up their contest with a 22-22 tie. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Stampede's hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Meanwhile, while it was Bessemer City who put the first points on the board on Thursday, it was Huffman who put up more. Bessemer City fell just short of Huffman by a score of 8-7. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost four in a row.

Whitley Phillips made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole Four bases. while going 2-for-2. Dameria Freeman was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Three bases.

Paul W. Bryant's draw gives them a new season record of 0-5-1. As for Bessemer City, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Paul W. Bryant came out on top in a nail-biter against Bessemer City when the teams last played back in April of 2023, sneaking past 16-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for Paul W. Bryant since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
