Volleyball Recap: Lila Hammer Key Part of Team Effort in Hurricanes Win

Cape Fear Academy won the last time they faced John Paul II Catholic and things went their way on Thursday too. The Hurricanes blew past the Saints 3-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hurricanes.

Cape Fear Academy never let John Paul II Catholic on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. The final score came out to 25-9, 25-22, 25-13.

Cape Fear Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lila Hammer, who had three digs and two aces. Hammer is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 12 or more in each of the last 25 games she's played dating back to last season. Tala Holliday also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

They weren't the only good servers: Cape Fear Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces every time they've taken the court this season.

Cape Fear Academy's record now sits at 11-3. As for John Paul II Catholic, their defeat was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-16.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cape Fear Academy will host Davidson Day at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for John Paul II Catholic, they will be playing at home against Coastal Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
