The Southside Cardinals are taking a road trip to challenge the Jay Mustangs at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Southside is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
On Friday, Southside came up short against Southwest and fell 3-1. While the Cardinals didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Dragons 25-15 in the first set.
Southside started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 15-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-19.

Despite the defeat, Southside got top-tier performance from Gabriella Galindo, who had 23 assists and 19 digs. Galindo has been hot for a while, having posted 14 or more assists the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Justinne Padilla, who had ten digs and two assists.
Meanwhile, Jay posted their closest win since August 28th on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Southwest 3-2.
Jay had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 16-25, 25-14, 25-16, 15-9.
Southside better focus on containing Isabella Ramirez and Izabella Pulido as the pair were huge in Jay's win. Ramirez had 21 digs and three aces, while Pulido had ten digs. Those 21 digs gave Ramirez a new career-high.
Jay was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.
Jay has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-10 record this season. As for Southside, their loss dropped their record down to 4-27.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Southside has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4.8 aces per game. However, it's not like Jay struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.2 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Southside suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Jay in their previous meeting back in September. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
