Baseball Game Preview: Martinsville Artesians vs. Greenwood Woodmen

The Martinsville Artesians will venture away from home to face off against the Greenwood Woodmen at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses dating back to last season for Martinsville and seven for Greenwood dating back to last season.

Last Friday, Martinsville didn't have quite enough to beat Northview and fell 7-6.

Rhys Wolf made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole six bases while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Drake Davis, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Greenwood had taken Whiteland down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Wednesday. The Woodmen came up short against the Warriors, falling 14-3.

Greenwood also got a good showing from Parker Jarboe, who didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched.

At the plate, Jayden Pierce was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. That run marked the first that he scored this season.

Greenwood's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Martinsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Martinsville's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Artesians have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.7 stolen bases per game.
