Preview: East St. Louis Flyers vs. University City Lions
East St. Louis has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the University City Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, East St. Louis didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Alton, but they still walked away with a 57-52 victory. Given East St. Louis' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while Alton is ranked 276th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
East St. Louis' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Robert McCline led the charge by scoring 16 points. Taylor Powell was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with 8 rebounds.
Even though University City has not done well against Parkway West recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. University City blew past Parkway West, posting a 69-41 victory at home. Winning may never get old, but University City sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
East St. Louis' win lifted them to 3-0 while Alton's loss dropped them down to 4-3.
