It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but South Hills ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Colony Titans 5-4. Winning may never get old, but the Huskies sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Zack Escalera made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Escalera was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one run and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, South Hills got a great performance from Joseph Moreno as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Moreno has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, South Hills let Diego Villarreal and Ayden Vieth run wild. Villarreal went 3-for-5 with one run and one double, while Vieth got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one double. That's the most runs Vieth has posted since back in March. Gabriel Guerrero also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
South Hills pushed their record up to 18-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.75 runs across that stretch. As for Colony, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 21-4.
South Hills will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Titans: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
