Baseball Game Preview: University City Centurions vs. Mira Mesa Marauders

For the second straight game, University City will face off against Mira Mesa. The Centurions will take on the Marauders at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last five games University City has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Mira Mesa hit University City with a five-run first inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Centurions might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 7-6 to the Marauders, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The loss continues a trend for the Centurions in their meetings with the Marauders: they've now lost four in a row.

For Mira Mesa's part, the team relied heavily on Nathaniel Widelski, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Widelski is becoming a predictor of the Marauders' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-2 (and 6-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Tristan Aguon, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Mira Mesa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matchups.

Mira Mesa's win bumped their record up to 12-14. As for University City, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-12.
