Football Recap: Fernley Falls Short Against Ranked Churchill County + How To Watch

Fernley faced Churchill County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Vaqueros were beaten by the Greenwave 42-15. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Vaqueros have suffered since October 18, 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Fernley lost, don't look at Keeshawn Love. Despite the final result, he rushed for 178 yards. Love's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 16th straight game with at least 122 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Fernley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Brody Jones and Isaid Solis.

Carson Melendy continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Churchill County, rushing for 357 yards and four scores while picking up 15.5 yards per carry. Melendy's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards.

With the defeat, Fernley broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2. As for Churchill County, the win keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fernley will face off against Lowry at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vaqueros will be up against the Buckaroos' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Churchill County, they will challenge Elko at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Indians' defense has only allowed 8.3 points per game this season, so the Greenwave's offense will have their work cut out for them.
