The Carson Senators will take on the Galena Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Carson is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 40-0 win over Wooster on the road. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Carson had a senior duo take command as Drake Hardcastle threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 passes and Ethan Hendee picked up 158 receiving yards and a touchdown. Those 158 receiving yards set a new season-high mark for Hendee.
Carson's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Aaron Witt and Jake Weninger. The dominant performance also gave Weninger a new career-high in rushing yards.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Carson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 234 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wooster only rushed for 21.
Meanwhile, Galena was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past North Valleys 49-7 at home. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Grizzlies.
Galena had a senior duo take command as Colson Kermode threw for 283 yards and five touchdowns on only 19 passes and Matt Ritenhouse picked up 160 receiving yards and three touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Galena's defense and their five sacks. North Valleys' QB won't forget Zachary Compston anytime soon given he sacked him twice.
Carson is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Galena, they pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Carson was taken down by Galena 37-0 when the teams last played back in October of 2023. Thankfully for Carson, Joseph Czyz (who rushed for 129 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
