Basketball Recap: Burke Largent's Big Game Can't Quite Lead De Beque over Meeker

If De Beque was feeling good fresh off their 57-35 takedown of Vail Christian last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The De Beque Dragons took a 60-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Meeker Cowboys. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Dragons of the 44-29 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2022.

De Beque's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Burke Largent, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 12 boards. The match was Largent's sixth in a row with at least 19 points. Jace Graham was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Meeker got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyler Sanders out in front who posted 18 points and six boards. Sanders has become a key player for Meeker: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least 15 points, but 3-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Said Rodriguez, who almost dropped a triple-double with ten points, nine rebounds, and 13 assists.

De Beque's defeat dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Meeker, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-15 record this season.

De Beque will face off against Cotopaxi at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Cotopaxi is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.1 points per game this season. As for Meeker, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 65-40 win against Vail Christian on the 1st.
