Baseball Game Preview: Pacifica Christian Tritons vs. Santa Fe Chiefs

The Pacifica Christian Tritons will face off against the Santa Fe Chiefs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Pacifica Christian's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Santa Fe's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Temescal Canyon hit Pacifica Christian with a four-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tritons took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Titans.

Scout Escobedo was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Pacifica Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-1 (and 4-7 when he doesn't). John Coopman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Santa Fe). They never let Whittier get on the board and left with a 16-0 win on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Chiefs in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won three in a row.

Santa Fe also got a great performance from Julian Valdez as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over six innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Valdez a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Ethan Lopez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nicolas Alvarez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Santa Fe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Pacifica Christian's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-8. As for Santa Fe, their win bumped their record up to 9-14.
