Baseball Recap: Eugene Snags 15th Win in Last 17 Games

Eugene had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Smithton on Monday. The Eagles blew past the Tigers 14-2. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jeffrey Schulte made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had over his last four games. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Jack Libbert and Sam Schulte did most of the damage at the plate: Libbert got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run, while Sam went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those four runs gave Schulte a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase Richard, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Eugene always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Smithton only posted an OBP of .417.

Eugene is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Smithton, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-13.

Coming up, Eugene will venture away from home to take on Harrisburg at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Smithton, they will welcome Tuscumbia at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
