Basketball Recap: Terra Linda Takes a Loss

Terra Linda has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 61-56 heartbreaker at the hands of the Piner Prospectors. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Trojans came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while the Prospectors are ranked 368th).

It was another big night for Apollo Pereira, who posted 27 points along with eight boards and three steals for Piner. That makes it three consecutive games in which Pereira has scored at least a third of Piner's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brendan Walker, who earned 12 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.

Terra Linda's loss dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Piner, they pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Terra Linda will take on Stuart Hall at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Piner, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Christopher at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Piner's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
