Baseball Game Preview: Martin County Gators vs. Perquimans Pirates

For the second straight game, Martin County will face off against Perquimans. The Gators will welcome the Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Martin County's pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so Perquimans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Martin County fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Perquimans on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 7-6. The Gators' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

For Perquimans' part, Maddux Thach made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Thach has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Jacob Askew was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Perquimans' victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Martin County, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 15-2.
