Softball Recap: University Prep Picks Up 17th Straight Win at Home

University Prep played against Yreka on Thursday and won via forfeit.

The team relied heavily on Leigha Wood, who fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 2-for-3. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madisyn Rubalcava, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: University Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.4.

University Prep pushed their record up to 8-8-1 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 7.9 runs this season. As for Yreka, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-18.

University Prep has already played their next matchup, a 4-4 tie against Red Bluff on the 25th. As for Yreka, they will head out on the road to square off against Anderson at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cubs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.36 runs per game on average), something the Miners will no doubt try to take advantage of.
