Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stanton County). They claimed a resounding 65-33 victory over the Walsh Eagles. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 45th in Kansas, while the Eagles are ranked 259th in Colorado), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
David Crane was his usual excellent self, going 8 of 12 en route to 18 points. Gerardo Robles was another key player, going 6 for 11 on his way to 13 points and six rebounds.
Stanton County was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Hudson Gourley and Cody Malone certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Gourley went 5 of 9 en route to 14 points and seven boards, while Malone posted seven points in addition to 18 rebounds and five blocks. Malone has been hot, having posted nine or more boards the last five times he's played.
Stanton County's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points per game. As for Walsh, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Stanton County will square off against Sublette at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sublette knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Stanton County likes a good challenge. As for Walsh, they will face off against Manzanola at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
