Basketball Recap: Walnut Ridge Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Walnut Ridge ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They snuck past the Africentric Early College Nubians with a 76-70 victory. The win was nothing new for the Scots as they're now sitting on six straight.

Walnut Ridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Deon Johnson led the charge by dropping a double-double with 20 points and ten boards. The contest was Johnson's sixth in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lee'Sean Saunders, who posted 17 points.

Walnut Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Africentric Early College, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-3.

Walnut Ridge and Africentric Early College should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Scots will challenge Independence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (227 vs. 626). Meanwhile, Africentric Early College (ranked 102nd) will meet Marion-Franklin (ranked 732nd) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
