Soccer Game Preview: Saugerties vs. Roosevelt

The Saugerties Sawyers will face off against the Roosevelt Presidents at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Saugerties fell victim to Mount Academy and their airtight defense on Friday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 10-0. While losing is never fun, Saugerties can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York soccer rankings (they are ranked 297th, while Mount Academy are ranked tenth).

Meanwhile, for the first time this season, Roosevelt was forced to settle for a draw. Neither they nor O'Neill could gain the upper hand on Tuesday so the two teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Saugerties has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. Roosevelt's draw gives them a new season record of 6-6-1.

Saugerties suffered a grim 5-1 defeat to Roosevelt when the teams last played back in September. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Sawyers were down 4-0.
