Softball Game Preview: Taunton Tigers vs. Belmont Marauders

The Taunton Tigers will square off against the Belmont Marauders on Monday. Taunton will come into the match with an undefeated record on the line.

Taunton barely beat Bishop Feehan the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers blew past the Shamrocks 8-2 on Saturday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Belmont rose to the challenge on Thursday. They skirted past the Bengals 5-4. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Marauders as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Olivia Ormond was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off 13 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Amelia Ormond was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Josie Kim, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Taunton's win was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Belmont, their record now sits at 12-10.
