Recap: Northern Durham Knights vs. Wake Forest Cougars
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Northern Durham Knights ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They walked away with a 68-61 victory over Wake Forest. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Nick Hicklen was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points. The game was his third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Austin Perry, who scored nine points.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Juel Tillery, who scored 16 points along with four steals. That's the first time this season that Tillery scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kavon Simmons, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Northern Durham and bumps their season record up to 2-5. As for Wake Forest, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-9.
Northern Durham won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Person at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th. Person presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Northern Durham in North Carolina (Person is ranked 93rd, while Northern Durham is ranked 489th). Wake Forest and Durham Academy will round out the year against one another at 5:30 p.m. on December 28th at. Durham Academy is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
