The Cedar Creek Pirates will face off against the Hammonton Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cedar Creek comes in on three and Hammonton on seven.
While Cedar Creek's win against Buena wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pirates sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over the Chiefs on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pirates have posted since April 25, 2024.
Richie Gonzales made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gonzales was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, JJ Watkins was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kevin Castillo, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI.
Cedar Creek hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buena struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hammonton). Everything went their way against Cumberland on Tuesday as they made off with a 17-5 victory. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.
Hammonton's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Cedar Creek, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.
