Baseball Recap: Omaha Central Triumphs

Omaha Central won the last time they faced South Sioux City and things went their way on Monday too. The Eagles came out on top against the Cardinals by a score of 8-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Julius Gentleman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Oscar Yuhas was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Omaha Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-1 (and 5-17 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Neujahr, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Omaha Central's victory bumped their record up to 13-18. As for South Sioux City, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Omaha Central will challenge Bellevue East at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chieftains have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.89 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for South Sioux City, they will head out on the road to challenge Omaha South at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Packers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.07 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
