Softball Recap: Fountain Inn's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Fountain Inn came tearing into Tuesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Emerald Vikings get on the board and left with a 23-0 win. Considering the Fury have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Halle Baker and Zoey Williams were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Baker pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Williams struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. At the plate, Baker scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in both of her plate appearances, while Williams scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Fountain Inn let Bethany Brown and Payton Herring run wild. Brown scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Herring scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave Herring a new career-high. Olivia Lieb was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Fountain Inn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Fountain Inn's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Emerald, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Fountain Inn will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Vikings: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
