Two dominant backs in Eli Wilbanks and D'marcis Gresham are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hughson Huskies will face off against the Roseville Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Hughson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They breezed past Pioneer to the tune of 49-6. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won four games by 23 points or more so far this season.
Hughson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hudson Baldwin led the charge by throwing for 219 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Titus Beers was in the mix too, providing the Huskies with two scores.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Hughson's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Valente Soria and Tristan Benham, who each picked up 1.5 sacks apiece. Soria was another major factor on D, picking up 1.5 sacks and making nine total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Roseville duked it out with Escalon on Friday. The Tigers enjoyed a cozy 49-30 victory over the Cougars. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Cougars are ranked 336th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Gresham and Dylan Ball. Gresham had a great game and gained 133 total yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Ball was balling out in the loss, picking up 90 receiving yards and one TD, while also rushing for 43 yards.
Roseville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Justin Fischer. He is on a roll when it comes to interceptions, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.
Hughson's record now sits at 9-2. As for Roseville, their record is now an identical 9-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Hughson has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 164.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Roseville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 199.8 rushing yards.
