Softball Game Preview: Burgettstown Blue Devils vs. Madonna Blue Dons

The Burgettstown Blue Devils will head out to take on the Madonna Blue Dons at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

As a matter of fact, Burgettstown put up the most points they have all season on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over Cornell. With that victory, the Blue Devils brought their scoring average up to 8.6 runs per game.

Brooklyn Robinson made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring four runs while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Layla Sherman was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Madison Guiddy was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Burgettstown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cornell only managed five hits.

Meanwhile, Madonna entered their tilt with Beallsville on Friday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They never let the Blue Devils get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Blue Dons, who have now won three matches by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Madonna's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Burgettstown, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-2.

Burgettstown couldn't quite finish off Madonna in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 11-9. Can Burgettstown avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
