Basketball Recap: Robert F. Smith STEAM Academy Comes Up Short

Robert F. Smith STEAM Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 76-41 defeat at the hands of the DSST: Green Valley Ranch Raptors. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 304th, while the Raptors are ranked 79th).

Despite the loss, Robert F. Smith STEAM Academy had strong showings from Dominic Doss, who posted 12 points and three steals, and Prince-Michael Combs, who went 5 of 11 en route to 14 points. Combs continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Taylor, who scored eight points and eight boards.

DSST: Green Valley Ranch got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tong Bot out in front who went 7 for 11 on his way to 18 points and three steals. Bot has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was David Abankwa, who went 7 of 9 en route to 14 points and five rebounds.

Robert F. Smith STEAM Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for DSST: Green Valley Ranch, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Robert F. Smith STEAM Academy will welcome Rocky Mountain Prep SMART at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Robert F. Smith STEAM Academy is facing Rocky Mountain Prep SMART at the right time seeing as Rocky Mountain Prep SMART is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for DSST: Green Valley Ranch, they will host Manual at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Manual's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matches.
