Soccer Game Preview: Shelby vs. Burns

The Shelby Golden Lions will head out to challenge the Burns Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Shelby has 20 straight wins, Burns has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Shelby's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Cherryville with a sharp 9-0 victory. Alyvia Berkowitz was a massive factor in the win as she booted in three goals all by herself.

Meanwhile, Burns fought the good fight in their overtime match against East Gaston on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 2-1. That's two games in a row now that Burns have lost by just one goal.

Burns' defeat dropped their record down to 6-11-2. As for Shelby, their win was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-0.

Everything went Shelby's way against Burns when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Shelby made off with a 4-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Lions since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
