Somonauk hasn't had much luck against Morris recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Werner also put up three RBI, which were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Eads, who went 4-for-6 with six RBI and three runs.
Somonauk always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Morris, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They came out on top against Sandwich by a score of 5-2 on Wednesday.
Mylie Hughes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Halie Olson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.
Somonauk's win bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Morris, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Somonauk hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Morris struggles in that department as they've averaged .375. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
