Baseball Game Preview: Central Jaguars vs. Walton Braves

The Central Jaguars will venture away from home to challenge the Walton Braves at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Central is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.

Central had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Pensacola Christian Academy on Tuesday. Everything went Central's way against Pensacola Christian Academy as Central made off with a 13-3 victory. The Jaguars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Quincy Wilson was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Reeves, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-2.

Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, while Walton scored more runs than they have all season, the final result was a bit underwhelming. They and Rocky Bayou Christian finished up on equal footing with a 13-13 draw last Thursday.

Central pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. With that draw, Walton's record moves to 3-7-1.

Walton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .368. It's a different story for Walton, though, as they've only averaged .232. Will they be able to contain Central's hitters?

Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Walton in their previous matchup back in February, winning 10-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Central since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
