Basketball Preview: St. Joseph Catholic Bruins vs. Jackson Academy Raiders

The St. Joseph Catholic Bruins will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jackson Academy Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Joseph Catholic will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Raiders are ranked first).

St. Joseph Catholic has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. Their tough 62-42 defeat to Presbyterian Christian on Friday might stick with them for a while.

Meanwhile, Jackson Academy came tearing into Thursday's game with 13 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 59-45 win over Madison-Ridgeland Academy.

It was another big night for Mike Williams, who shot 4-for-8 from long range and dropped a double-double on 29 points and 11 rebounds. Mason Williams was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.

St. Joseph Catholic has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 21-8 record this season. As for Jackson Academy, their win was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 28-1.

St. Joseph Catholic was dealt a bruising 63-36 loss at the hands of the Raiders when the teams last played back in January. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point St. Joseph Catholic was down 38-15.
