Carly Holman made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Bridget Mulligan and Izzy Weber did most of the damage at the plate: Mulligan went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Weber scored two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, Weber posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sadie Zipser, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
John Paul II hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Bishop Lynch was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against Dallas Christian, falling 10-0. That's two games in a row now that the Friars have lost by exactly ten runs.
John Paul II is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. Bishop Lynch's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
Bishop Lynch's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. John Paul II has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Bishop Lynch, though, as they've been averaging only 2.8 strikeouts. Will John Paul II keep running through batters, or will Bishop Lynch buck the trend?
