Volleyball Game Preview: Chardon Hilltoppers vs. Mentor Cardinals

Chardon is a perfect 3-0 against Mentor since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Hilltoppers will head out to challenge the Cardinals at 11:00 a.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Chardon took a three-set defeat the last time they faced off against Independence, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hilltoppers had just enough and edged out the Blue Devils 3-2 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hilltoppers have posted since April 30, 2024.

Chardon had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 18-25, 25-15, 27-25, 15-6.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Mentor faced off against Euclid on Thursday. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 3-0 victory. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Mentor never let Euclid on the board, but things got pretty close in the first set. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-9, 25-21.

Chardon's record is now 2-5. As for Mentor, their record now sits at 8-6.

Chardon came out on top in a nail-biter against Mentor when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hilltoppers since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
