Softball Recap: Civic Memorial Comes Up Short

Civic Memorial dropped their record down to 10-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 10-2 to the Waterloo Bulldogs. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

Skylar Johnson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Kylie Wright also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

As for Waterloo, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The win continues a trend for them in their matchups with Civic Memorial: they've now won nine in a row.

On Waterloo's side, Aidan Dintelman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up seven Ks. Dintelman has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sam Juelfs was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallory Thompson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Civic Memorial and Waterloo should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Eagles will take on Alton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (162 vs. 514). Meanwhile, Waterloo (ranked 33rd) will meet Chester (ranked 119th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 3.9, the Yellowjackets 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
