Volleyball Recap: Wayne Christian Starts Season with Defeat at Home + How To Watch

Wayne Christian unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the St. Thomas More Academy Chancellors by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Chancellors 25-17 in the first set.

Wayne Christian took St. Thomas More Academy into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking three-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 17-25, 25-16, 25-20, 24-26, 15-12.

Wayne Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Alanna Verme, who had 25 kills, nine aces, and six digs. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Brock, who had four digs and three aces.

Portia Hale was a one-woman wrecking crew For St. Thomas More Academy. as she had 21 digs and three aces. Hale has been hot recently, having posted three or more aces the last three times she's played.

St. Thomas More Academy has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

As for St. Thomas More Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 victory against Rocky Mount Academy on the 19th.
