Softball Recap: Hilliard Darby Takes a Loss

Hilliard Darby managed to slip by Thomas Worthington the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Panthers lost 13-5 to the CARDINALS on Thursday. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the CARDINALS earlier this season, when they won 8-7.

Marley Grigsby was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over 6.1 innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since April 1st.

At the plate, Kaydence Speelman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Lorelai Gum, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Hilliard Darby has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-5 record this season. As for Thomas Worthington, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Looking ahead, Hilliard Darby will head out on the road to face off against Marysville at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Thomas Worthington, they will host Westerville South at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The CARDINALS are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
