Volleyball Recap: Portage Mustangs vs. Northern Cambria Colts
It looked like the Kentucky Derby when Portage challenged Northern Cambria on Tuesday. The Mustangs took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Colts. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Colts recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Portage started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-11.
Northern Cambria found their leader in sophomore Sophia Fry, who had 25 digs and four assists. Those 25 digs set a new season-high mark for Fry. Aadyn Hoover also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
Portage's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Northern Cambria, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Portage will take on rival United at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Northern Cambria is set to challenge their familiar foe Conemaugh Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
