Preview: Liberal Redskins vs. Great Bend Panthers
Liberal is 2-8 against Great Bend since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Liberal Redskins will head out on the road to square off against the Great Bend Panthers at 7:30 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Liberal has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Great Bend will arrive with three straight victories.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 66-32, which was the final score in Liberal's tilt against Hays on Friday. While losing is never fun, Liberal can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 198th, while Hays is ranked 42nd).
Liberal's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Zayden Martinez, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two blocks, and Beto Torres who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Great Bend can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. Everything went their way against Garden City as Great Bend made off with a 77-52 win. Great Bend pushed the score to 66-39 by the end of the third, a deficit Garden City cut but never quite recovered from.
Liberal's defeat was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Great Bend, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Liberal came up short against Great Bend in their previous meeting last Friday, falling 70-62. Can Liberal avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
