Recap: St. Mary's Ryken Knights vs. Archbishop Carroll Lions
The St. Mary's Ryken Knights struggled with assists on Thursday (the Archbishop Carroll Lions had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. St. Mary's Ryken had to suffer through a rough 73-45 loss at the hands of Archbishop Carroll. St. Mary's Ryken was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-16.
St. Mary's Ryken lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jaela Fair, who scored seven points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Thompson, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Archbishop Carroll's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nyair McCoy led the charge by scoring 23 points along with eight steals and seven assists. McCoy has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Aliyah Duncan was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds.
St. Mary's Ryken has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. As for Archbishop Carroll, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.
St. Mary's Ryken won't have much time to rest: their next game is against The Academy of the Holy Cross at 5:00 p.m. on February 9th. The Academy of the Holy Cross is on a three-game streak of home losses, St. Mary's Ryken a five-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. As for Archbishop Carroll, they will head out on the road to square off against St. John's at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. John's is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
