Baseball Recap: Salem Baptist Christian Takes a Loss

Salem Baptist Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Vandalia Christian. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Salem Baptist Christian has suffered since April 16, 2024.

Brandon Lloyd was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. Lloyd was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Lloyd wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Graeson Reid, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That run was Reid's first of the season.

Salem Baptist Christian's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Vandalia Christian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0.

Salem Baptist Christian will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Oak Ridge Military Academy at 4:30 p.m. on March 18th. As for Vandalia Christian, they will take on Gospel Light Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
