Basketball Recap: Southern Lee Takes a Loss

Southern Lee played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Union Pines Vikings and fell 76-34. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 417th, while the Vikings are ranked 35th).

Ashanti Fox continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Union Pines, going 10 of 24 en route to 28 points and seven steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Fox has scored at least a third of Union Pines' points. Another player making a difference was Gianna Maheu, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 10 points and six steals.

Southern Lee has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Union Pines, the win keeps them at an undefeated 16-0.

Southern Lee wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 37-36 defeat against Lee County on the 17th. As for Union Pines, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 57-42 victory against Pinecrest on the 17th.
