Softball Game Preview: El Capitan Gauchos vs. Golden Valley Cougars

El Capitan hasn't had much luck against Golden Valley recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The El Capitan Gauchos will head out to face off against the Golden Valley Cougars at 4:00 p.m. El Capitan has given up an average of 17.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

El Capitan is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 19th straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They lost 20-4 to Buhach Colony.

Emma Derichsweiler and Teagan Duyette did some serious damage despite the final result: Derichsweiler went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double, while Duyette scored two runs while going 2-for-2. That hit marked the first that Derichsweiler got this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Akers, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Golden Valley fell victim to Merced and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Bears, falling 7-0.

El Capitan's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Golden Valley, they dropped their record down to 1-4-1 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

El Capitan might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Golden Valley in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can El Capitan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
