Football Recap: Hemphill Skates Past KIPP Houston with Ease

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Trinity, Hemphill was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They claimed a resounding 57-8 victory over the KIPP Houston Kerberos. Considering the Hornets' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Brady Layne looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 158 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (165.2). Richyon Smith helped Layne out on the ground, rushing for 50 yards and one TD.

Hemphill was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 219 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Hemphill's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for KIPP Houston, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Hemphill and KIPP Houston will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Hornets see the field they'll take on Timpson at 7:30 p.m. on October 10. As for KIPP Houston, their break will end when they face Pro-Vision Academy at 7:00 p.m. on October 10.
