Basketball Recap: Aveson Global Leadership Academy Comes Up Short

It was a good run, but Aveson Global Leadership Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They were outmatched by the South Pasadena Tigers and fell 90-56. While losing is never fun, the Avengers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 720th, while the Tigers are ranked 237th).

Despite the defeat, Aveson Global Leadership Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Damondre Jenkins went 13 of 27 en route to 35 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jenkins has scored all season. Sahar Fiiller was another key player, putting up 11 points and five assists.

Jack Madison was his usual excellent self, going 12 for 15 on his way to 26 points along with seven assists and five boards for South Pasadena. The dominant performance gave Madison a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Trevor Cohen, who went 6 of 9 en route to 12 points and five rebounds.

Aveson Global Leadership Academy now has a losing record at 7-8. As for South Pasadena, their record now sits at 13-7.

Aveson Global Leadership Academy will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Varsity Opponent on Saturday. South Pasadena has already played their next match, a 60-49 victory against La Canada on the 27th.
