Softball Game Preview: Pioneer Mustangs vs. Del Mar Dons

Pioneer has gone a perfect 3-0 against Del Mar recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Dons at 4:00 p.m. Pioneer is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Pioneer needed a bit of extra time to put away Silver Creek. They had just enough and edged out the Raiders 6-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Leilah Ortiz made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over eight innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. Ortiz was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Evie Quinn was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Gia Amador was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, Del Mar was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 20-2 to Christopher, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Del Mar's defeat dropped their record down to 1-22. As for Pioneer, their victory bumped their record up to 8-15.

Pioneer got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March against Del Mar by a conclusive 16-3 score. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
