Baseball Game Preview: Sabino Sabercats vs. Benjamin Franklin Chargers

The Sabino Sabercats will face off against the Benjamin Franklin Chargers at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Sabino is looking for their season's first win.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Sabino's offense. They lost 10-0 to Cholla on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Franklin posted their closest victory since April 13, 2024 on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Payson 5-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Chargers.

Talan Speir was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.

Speir wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Paolo Baca, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Benjamin Franklin picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 3-5-1. As for Sabino, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.

Sabino came out on top in a nail-biter against Benjamin Franklin when the teams last played back in March of 2019, sneaking past 5-3. Will Sabino repeat their success, or does Benjamin Franklin has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
