League recap: Tarboro tops Northampton County to extend winning streak

1A Conference 9 recap November 5, 2013

Tarboro extended the longest winning streak in 1A Conference 9 this week by beating Northampton County, 50-7. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.

Rocky Mount Prep fell to Riverside 80-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.

South Creek's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Brandon Battle threw for 71 and 1 touchdown and Jeremy Roberson had 51 yards receiving. On the ground Roman Frayer chipped in 100 yards. Rondrell Andrews helped South Creek's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 20 yards.

South Creek's dynamic duo of Battle and Roberson proved tough for North Edgecombe to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Andrews helped South Creek's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 20 yards.

Frayer was a passing and rushing force as Jeremy Jones' team lost to the Warriors. Frayer's key target this week was Roberson, who caught 2 passes for 51 yards.

5-foot-10 quarterback Clay Wagner of Riverside is the league leader in passing yards this season with 954. He has also thrown 9 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Romalik Parker. The South Creek star has 23 catches for 463 yards.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Tarboro takes on North Edgecombe. Jeff Craddock's team is currently in first, while Danny Ward's team is in fourth.
