Softball Game Preview: Waunakee Warriors vs. Watertown Goslings

Waunakee hasn't had much luck against Watertown recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Warriors will square off against the Goslings at 5:00 p.m.

Waunakee fell victim to Oregon and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 7-0 to the Panthers.

Meanwhile, Watertown got the win against Monona Grove on Monday by a conclusive 7-1. The Goslings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Allison Howlett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. She also put up a run, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Cassidy Peplinski was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Makenah Novotny was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Watertown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monona Grove only managed two hits.

Watertown pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Waunakee, they now have a losing record of 8-9.

Waunakee might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Watertown when the teams last played back in April. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
